2026 Summer Extern Program
Are you a highly qualified nursing student interested in pursuing a professional career with Henry Ford Health to develop the clinical knowledge, skills, and self-confidence needed to be a Registered Nurse?
Then the 2026 Summer Nurse Extern Program is for you!
Applications will be accepted: Friday 1/30 – Tuesday 2/17 4:00pm
About the program:
10-week program: May 11 – July 18
Schedule: 32 hours per week paid clinical experience
Variety of clinical departments based on availability
Work 1:1 with an RN preceptor in assigned clinical area
Comprehensive orientation, mentoring from nurses and leaders, networking opportunities
Opportunities for continued employment upon successful completion of the program
To qualify for a Summer Nurse Extern position you must:
Be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred)
Complete two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting) by program start date
Provide a copy of transcripts and resume
Be available for the following summer nurse extern program session dates:
May 11 – July 18,
Must be available for orientation everyday May 11 – 15 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 and May 28 – 29 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Must be able to work 32 hours/week May 11 – July 18.
Ascension has entered into an agreement with Henry Ford Health System to form a joint venture that includes
Ascension Michigan’s Southeast and Genesys hospitals. As a result, our Ascension operations will transition into
Henry Ford as of 10-1-2024.
