Nurse Extern Program

The Nurse Extern program offers senior nursing students a 12-month program in which the extern will be immersed in the role of a professional nurse. Externs will work side-by-side with a registered nurse, providing hands-on patient care and developing clinical reasoning skills necessary for quality patient care delivery.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS The Nurse Extern program is for students in the last year of their nursing program. Externs will spend time in all nursing units in 6-week rotations. The program allows a flexible schedule around school requirements (max: 24hrs/week). The nurse extern must commit in advance to all nursing unit rotations.

Nurse Residency Program The Nurse Residency Program (NRP) supports new nurse graduates as they transition into their first professional role as caregivers. This extensive one-year program features a series of learning and hands-on experience that develops clinical leadership skills necessary to become a successful member of the healthcare team.

Program Details: 12-month program with topics reviewed by content experts that promote resident engagement. One 4-hour seminar each month with clinical reflection time that allows nurse residents to share their day-to-day experiences amongst their peers. The evidence-based initiative is completed by the nurse resident group to promote patient safety and quality improvement.
