Fit Testing Guidelines

Key Points

  1. Respiratory FIT Testing: FIT testing ensures proper respiratory protection for our patients, staff, and students. Confirmation of a comfortable fit with the required level of protection is expected.
  2. Approved Mask Models: FIT testing documentation must indicate that testing was conducted using one of the following Atrium Health Floyd required mask models:
    • 3M 1860 S
    • 3M 1860 R
    • 3M 1870 S
    • 3M 1870 R
  3. Compliance: Students who successfully complete FIT testing with one of the specified mask models will be considered compliant and eligible to participate in clinical rotations.
  4. ID Badge: Only compliant students will receive their ID badges, which are essential for access to clinical areas.
  5. Fit Testing is not required for high school students, shadowers or observers.
  6. Fit Testing is required for all MD, DO, MD/DO RESIDENCY, DNP, NP, PA, CRNA and AA students

Medical Students

As part of our commitment to safety and compliance, all medical students including: MD, DO, MD/DO Residency, DNP, NP, PA, CRNA and AA, beginning their clinical rotations at Atrium Health Floyd are required to complete Respiratory FIT Testing prior to obtaining ID badge to begin rotation. This Respiratory FIT Testing ensures proper respiratory protection and adherence to infection control protocols. Respiratory FIT Testing must be documented as having been done on one of three Atrium Health Floyd REQUIRED MASK MODELS which include: 3M 1860 S, 3M 1860 R, 3M 1870 S and 3M 1870 R.

If your school does NOT test on one of these three mask models you are required to report to Teammate Health on your first day of rotation to be tested before you can obtain and ID badge to begin your rotation. You will follow these steps:

  1. On the first day of your clinical rotation, visit Teammate Health/Atrium Health Floyd at 330 Turner McCall Blvd, Rome, GA 3016 to undergo Respiratory FIT testing. You may also book an appointment by calling 706-509-5740.
  2. Once FIT testing is completed, your documentation will be uploaded to your ACEMAPP requirement by Teammate Health and your compliance status will be updated in ACEMAPP.
  3. With a “Compliant” status, you will be eligible to receive your ID badge from Security on the 1st Floor/Basement of the hospital.

Nursing Students and All Allied Health

Students can upload their FIT Testing results indicating one of three required Atrium Health Floyd masks. If testing was not done on one of three required masks, school partners can contact Chris Butler, Corporate Health, Atrium Health Floyd at Christopher.W.Butler@atriumhealth.org or phone 706-509-3470 to set up an appointment to come to your site for a fee to test your students.

Opt-Out

Schools can opt out of the FIT testing for your students, but you must sign the attestation (form must be downloaded from Students requirements) in ACEMAPP acknowledging you are opting your students out and it is your responsibility to communicate to your students that they cannot enter areas where FIT/Respirators are required.
