MCARD ID BADGE

UMSN GRAD AND UNDERGRAD STUDENTS

You must exchange your campus MCard ID for a University of Michigan Health MCard ID badge at the Key ID Office in order to gain access to health system doors. Campus access will be maintained on your new badge. The badge is valid for 5 years. You should receive a signed authorization form through the Undergraduate Program Office for your MCard ID badge.

NON-UM UNDERGRAD STUDENTS

On your first day of clinical, your Instructor will guide you through the process and have the form for you to fill out to obtain your MCARD ID badge.

ALL STUDENTS

Access to Clinical Unit: Access to clinical units is meant to be on clinical days and times as planned in your curriculum. Should you need to return to the unit for other clinical purposes, this should be cleared with the corresponding clinical faculty for the course. If you are visiting someone on the unit, you need to request admittance to the unit using the visitation policy for that unit, including the standards for locked units. Please remember that issues related to HIPAA and safety as well as other considerations may be involved.

NON-UMSN GRAD STUDENTS ONLY

The process lead, April Stingo, will be sending you and your preceptor an email regarding your MCARD ID BADGE and PARKING two weeks prior to your clinical term start date. On your first day of clinical, your preceptor will guide you through the process and have the form for you to fill out to obtain your MCARD ID badge.

PARKING

INFORMATION

1. Once a student is fully processed in the Secure Portal (ART), your name is added to the parking eligibility list. After being added, you may register for a parking permit via the online system.
2. Parking in visitor lots is NOT permitted. It is only permitted on your first day to get your MCARD ID (Visitor Parking Structure P2 or P3) Maps and Visitor Guide.

REGISTRATION STEPS

1. All non-employee students must register for an account [HERE]
2. Permits are available online only. Payment by credit card is required.
3. Orientation Video: Parking Orientation Video.

PERMIT DETAILS

1. Permits may be purchased up to 5 days before the valid start date.
2. All permits are virtual (no physical hangtags).

LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION (LPR) RULES AND GATE ACCESS

1. Your license plate must be visible from the driving lane.
2. If you plan to back into a space, you must have a front plate.
3. This applies to all vehicles and will be enforced via LPR camera systems.
4. If you currently use an AVI device, keep it.
5. AVI access only opens gates and does not serve as a parking permit.
6. AVI will continue to operate gates during the transition to LPR, which is expected to be fully implemented by Fall 2025 thru Fall 2026.
