Strong Minds The Master’s Level Clinical Practicum or Internship at Strong Minds Mental Health and Wellness Clinic provides graduate students with hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary mental health setting. Located at 150 N. Chestnut Street, Strong Minds is part of URMC’s adult general Mental Health Outpatient Department and additionally offers specialty services such as Lazos Fuertes, Deaf Wellness, and GPS. The clinic operates with an integrated team of professionals, including psychotherapists (mental health counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists), psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, and nursing staff. Recently, the clinic has expanded its services to include CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor), targeted case management/psychiatric rehabilitation, and peer services. With a patient census of 1,440, the practicum or internship provides students with exposure to diverse mental health care practices and populations, fostering professional growth and clinical expertise.

Our Master’s Level Clinical Practicum/Internship Track at Strong Minds includes the following:

  • Formal Onboarding Day to orient to the clinic
  • Student will be matched with a Clinical Supervisor at Strong Minds for 1:1 Supervision

  • Observational opportunities – Intake Assessment Appointments, Groups (DBT), Individual Psychotherapy, Medication Management Appointments
  • Vetting of patients that will be appropriate for the Student to work with coupled with close supportive supervision

We welcome students from mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, and social work programs.
