🩺 NURS 4941 Preceptorship Overview

Preceptorship is an exciting and meaningful part of your final semester at AUCON. Below are important details to help you prepare and stay on track.

Preceptorship Request and Placement Instructions

NURS 4941 Preceptorship Overview

📅 Timing & Class Expectations

  • Preceptorship will take place during the second half of your final semester.
  • You will have in-person class sessions both before and after your rotation, but no class meetings during the preceptorship period.
  • Placement requests will be submitted at the start of your third semester.
  • During the preceptorship meeting, you’ll receive full details about hours, expectations, and requirements.

🚫 Placement Policy – Please Read Carefully

Hospitals require that all preceptorships be arranged solely by the AUCON Preceptorship Coordinator and the hospital’s designated coordinator.

  • Please do not attempt to arrange your own placement.
  • This includes asking nurses if they are willing to precept you.
  • Following this process helps protect our hospital partnerships and ensures compliance with institutional policies.

📍Clinical Site Selection & Contracts

Preceptorship Clinical Sites

Above is a list of approved sites for preceptorship.

Please keep in mind:

  • The list is subject to change due to contract updates.
  • New contracts are challenging to secure due to:
  • State Board of Nursing restrictions
  • Limited capacity at hospitals due to local university demand
  • Lengthy legal review processes for individual student placements

States with Known Restrictions

Due to Board of Nursing regulations, we are generally unable to place students in:

  • New York
  • Texas
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Alaska

(This list is not exhaustive and may change.)

Requesting a New Contract

If you’re hoping to request a new contract in a state where AUCON meets Board of Nursing requirements, you must:

  • Have a documented employment history with the hospital (externship, internship, or scholarship)
  • Plan to apply for a position at that hospital after graduation Please note:
  • The contract process is lengthy and complex, involving both hospital and university legal teams
  • Final contracts must be signed by the Provost of Auburn University
  • Advance planning is essential if you wish to pursue this option
